The Dayspring Trio: A Harmony of Faith, Family, and Gospel Music

The Dayspring Trio is a contemporary Southern Gospel group based in Americus, GA. Brothers David and Michael Luten, along with long-time friend Jason Ross, form one of the tightest blends of harmony you’ll hear this side of heaven. This is a part-time ministry; we prioritize active engagement with our families and our local church while sharing the gift of music with the wider world on select weekends each month. To us, the gospel is more than just a style of music. It’s the good news that Jesus reigns—bringing hope to the hopeless, light in the darkness, and life to all who believe. Our mission is to proclaim this gospel faithfully—in the home, in the workplace, in the church, and from the stage—using music as a means to glorify Christ and point others to Him.

How It Started

Our journey began in 1999, when the three of us—just teenagers at the time—were invited to provide entertainment for a Valentine’s banquet at our home church in Americus. What started as a fun performance of doo-wop classics quickly turned into something more. We discovered not only a shared love for harmony, but also a deep connection rooted in friendship and faith.

While those early doo-wop songs were fun, they didn’t fully reflect who we were at heart. Growing up in a church with a strong a cappella tradition, we naturally gravitated toward faith-based vocal music. In those early years, our ministry took shape as an a cappella quintet with friends Russ Wishum and John Landrum, inspired by groups like Acappella and The Vocal Union. Before some of us even had a driver’s license, our weekends were already filled with youth rallies, socials, and church events.

Eventually, though life took us in different directions for a season, but the music—and the call—never left us. In 2007, we reunited, this time as the Southern Gospel trio we are today. It's a ministry we’ve carried forward ever since.

How It's Going

Now approaching two decades as a trio, our bond has only deepened — not just as singers, but as brothers in Christ and dearest friends. While we love the ministry of the stage and are humbled to occasionally share it with some of gospel music’s finest, our most treasured moments are often found behind the scenes: raising kids, serving in our local churches, and doing life together as a family.

Our “Dayspring Family” extends beyond the three of us — it includes our wives, our children, and the shared traditions that have formed through the years. The harmony of our music plays second fiddle to the harmony of our lives. Above all, we believe our highest honor and greatest responsibility is to model the love of Christ in our homes and pass on a legacy of faith to our children.

So, with a limited schedule of around 50 concerts a year, we carefully balance our music ministry with our ministry as fathers and husbands. Whether we're singing on stage or investing in the lives of our children, we see it all as part of the same calling — to reflect the love of Christ in all we do. Each concert becomes more than just a performance — it’s an extension of that calling, a way to encourage the church, and a heartfelt invitation to experience the hope and healing found in Jesus. We consider it a privilege to live out that mission together — not just as a trio, but as a family.
