What Does God Want?
To put it simply; God wants you to be part of His family.
From the very beginning, humanity was created to reflect God’s image, to live in intimate fellowship with Him, and to care for His creation as His beloved children and heirs of all that He had made. But sin—our rebellion and misplaced loyalty—broke that relationship. We turned away from our Father, surrendering ourselves to forces of ruin and death. Our betrayal began with Adam in the garden, but is reenacted in our own lives every time we choose selfish pride and autonomy over trusting devotion to our Creator.
But God has never given up on His family. He has always wanted you back!
The Gospel is the story of God's epic quest to rescue and restore His broken household—to free His children from bondage and bring them back into His family. To accomplish this, God Himself entered our broken world in the person of Jesus Christ. Where every other human who has ever lived has portrayed a distorted and twisted Image of the Father, Jesus was the exact reflection of God's own being. Where every other human who has ever lived has been enslaved to sin and death, Jesus was without sin, leaving death no claim over Him.
Yet, He died anyway. On the cross of Calvary, He willingly suffered and bore the curse of our betrayal to ransom us from the powers of darkness, to break the chains of sin and death, and forever atone for the sins of His wayward children. But God, through the power of His Holy Spirit, raised Jesus from the dead, vindicating Him as His faithful Son and putting to shame the powers of death and hell. Through the resurrection, God showed Jesus to be the true Heir of the Father—the only human who has ever fully embodied what it means to be human—to bear the image of God.
He is our King, the One who stands at the head of God’s people.
He is our Deliverer, who has fought our battle and secured our victory
He is our Redeemer, who has paid the ransom
The way back into the family of God has been carved out. Our captors have been defeated.
The ransom has been paid, not with gold or precious stones, but with the priceless blood of God’s own Son, the firstborn over all creation.
The Call of the Gospel
The Gospel, then, is not just about escaping hell or nurturing a private spiritual feeling. It is the royal announcement of Jesus' Victory and our redemption!—that through His life, death, and resurrection; forgiveness, freedom, and new creation are offered to all who entrust themselves to Him. To receive this good news is to step out of the old dominion of sin and death and into the household of God.
It is to:
- Turn from sin and false gods that cannot give life.
- Trust in Jesus, believing that His death and resurrection bring forgiveness and adoption into God’s family.
- Give Him your allegiance as Lord and God—living in sincere devotion which produces faithful obedience.
- Publicly profess that trust and allegiance through baptism, as a pledge of repentant devotion and a mark of belonging to the Household of Christ.
- Join His family, the Church, and take your place in God’s mission as His image-bearer.
